Access Control

Access Control is a security technique that can be used to regulate and monitor who can or can’t have access to a facility.

Access Control

Access Control system is a security technique used to regulate and control passages into or out of any area. The purpose of an access control system is to provide quick convenient access to those persons who are authorized, while at the same time, restricting access to those who are not.

Over the years, access control systems have become more and more sophisticated to include a wide range of solutions whether being a standalone or computer-based network type and management software with time and attendance functionalities. Systems may vary in type and complexity. However, the most commonly used components on most access control systems would be based on at least a combination of the following components:-

  • Door controllers
  • Door locking hardware such as electric strikes and magnetic door locks
  • Emergency door Release call points and override key switches
  • Request to exit push buttons
  • Proximity (RF) Readers
  • Proximity (RF)  Pin Readers
  • Biometric Readers
  • Biometric/Pin/Proximity Reader
  • Biometric/Pin/Proximity Reader controllers which do not require door controllers
  • Long range proximity readers for parking control solutions including vehicle barriers (Boom gates)

Whether using door controllers or reader controllers, systems would generally include a management software which may comprise of various modules. The software would be installed on a computer server which would host the database. The computer server would be responsible for the recording of the system activities and distribute information to and from the access control door controller or reader controllers.
